All American Apple Bites

There is nothing that says Celebrate America more than Apple Pie. We will be on the dock at the lake with a picnic basket watching the fire works on the evening of the 4th of July. I like to  pack as many finger foods as possible. One of the foods that will be going in the basket this year will be my All American Apple Bites.

Recipe
All American Apple Bites
Miz Helen's Kitchen
5 cups Granny Smith Apples Sliced Thin peeling on
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 tablespoon Corn Starch
1 tablespoon milk
A pinch of butter for each bite
In a medium pan mix the sliced apples with the lemon juice and 1/4 cup water. Add the sugar's, cinnamon and allspice. Heat to boiling and boil for 7 to 8 minutes, stirring constantly, until apples begin to wilt and sugars are thick like syrup. Mix the cornstarch with 1/2 cup water and add it to the boiling mixture, stirring constantly until mixture is thicken. Take off heat and let cool to room temperature.
Using your favorite pie crust, cut circles that will fit your mini muffin tin. Place the dough circle in the muffin tin and push down to form a little cup. Place 1 tablespoon of the cooled apple mixture into the little dough cup and top it with a pinch butter and then a small dough circle. Brush the tops and sides with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes or until your crust begins to brown.

Now its time to sit down and give these All American Apple Bites a taste and of course they will be better with a big bowl of Blue Bell, I just can't help it, sometimes I just have to have a treat!

  7. This looks awesome! Two of the four of my family members are allergic to apples, so a whole apple pie is too much. But this looks like my solution! I can cut the recipe down so I still get to enjoy some. Thanks, Miz Helen!
