Whats For Dinner Next Week 4-1-12

We have had our Easter decorations out for awhile now, because it seems like Easter is coming so early this year, the time is flying by. We are starting our preparations for Easter this week getting ready for the big Egg Hunt and other family activities that are so much fun at Easter time. Come on in the kitchen with me and  you can help me get one of these projects ready for next week end and we will talk about The Menu. Welcome to Full Plate Thursday, I am so excited to see you today.   Spring is popping out all over and certainly our food reflects the season. Every week when I am preparing for you to come and share the day with us I think about all the wonderful food that you will be bringing and the great fellowship that we have here every Thursday. Best Cherry Pie

"Can she bake a Cherry Pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy?"  I remember hearing my Mother singing that little tune when she would be baking this Cherry Pie. I always knew that we would have Cherry Pie that night for dessert when she started singing that little tune. This is a great Cherry Pie recipe that has been in our family since I can remember, and that's a long time, lol.


Whats For Dinner Next Week 3-25-12

I am so excited about Spring we have had enough rain that our lake is now full and it just looks beautiful. We got 5 1/2 inches of rain in 24 hours last week so that really helps. Come take a walk with me just down in The Garden Gate and we will sit on the patio and have our morning coffee and enjoy the beauty of spring and talk about The Menu for next week. Slow Cooker Green Chili Stew

When it gets really cold and rainy outside one of the favorite stew's at The Country Cottage is Green Chili Stew. It is real comfort food for us, and that is what we are making today. Ruben Burger

When the calendar rolls over to March, I think of time change, St Patrick's Day, Rubens, and Basketball. Its March Madness Time, and we are having a small group of friends over to enjoy some basketball with us. We have had some beautiful weather and are able to use our grill, so I wanted to cook outdoors. I developed this burger just for the party, but we will be having it again and again, it is a great burger! Ruben Burger Ruben Burger Miz Helen's Kitchen 1/4 pound Cooked Corned Beef chopped very fine in the food processor 1 onion, chopped 1 pound ground chuck (we use grass fed beef ) 1/4 cup parsley, chopped dash cayenne pepper Salt and Pepper to taste 2 cups Sauerkraut Sliced Swiss Cheese Thousand Island Dressing Buns of your choice In the food processor chop until fine the Corned Beef and the onion. Mix the ground chuck, Corned Beef and Onion Mix, parsley, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper then make the Ruben Burger Patties. I always make a li

Southwest Breakfast Bake Southwestern Breakfast Bake Southwestern Breakfast Bake is a delicious blend of southwestern flavors, eggs, tortillas and vegetables. This Breakfast Bake can be served morning noon or night and a favorite for family and friends. This is one of those bakes that can be frozen in indiviual servings for up to 3 months. We love being able to grab one serving, heat it up in the micro wave and it is ready to go. It just seems like yesterday and we were adjusting our clocks to daylight savings time and here it is again. Spring is here. My yard is filled with beautiful wild flowers, daffodils, and the trees are beginning to bloom and set on leaves. St Patrick's Day is Saturday and we will be enjoying the local St Patrick's Day Festival. I want to take a moment to remember all our friends in the heartland who lost so much this past week end in the horrible tornado's.
