Cottage Paint Adventure
We moved to our little country cottage 8 years ago and we have had so much fun improving the property. We owned the property for a number of years and used it as a rental property until we retired and moved from the city to the country. We had painted the exterior of the house and the little tool shed at the time we moved in, but time passes and it was time for a fresh coat of paint. We are really happy with the finished product!
Eight Years Ago
First We Pick The Color
I had already made a decision about the color range that I wanted, but spent a lot of time on line looking at combinations that would look good for this property and that we would love. When the time came I brought some paint samples home to try. We painted the porch post in several places so we could see it from the inside and the outside. We lived with the samples for about a week just to make sure the color would really work. For the overall color we picked a soft gray by Sherwin Williams Urban Outlook UO 09 Online-Sw7072. The trim Timeless White HGSW4055.
Next The Repair
First step was a good power wash to make sure all the dirt and loose paint would be removed so the new paint would not peel. Some of the trim boards had to be replaced and the cracks filled and sanded. All the windows had to be caulked. The porch post needed material replaced around the bottom where the water had started to water rot the wood. It was an overall exterior repair.
