Baked Steak and Potatoes
When I ask my guys to give me a bucket food list for the month, one of the favorites is always Baked Steak and Potatoes, and it is one of my favorites as well. This dish is so easy to put together and turns out so tender, delicious and makes its own thick gravy, no wonder we all love it. I am happy to put this dish on the menu for any day of the week it is a winner every time.

1/8 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cooking oil
4 medium Irish Potatoes, peeled and sliced
2 cups buttermilk
2 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons parsley
Directions
With 2 tablespoons soft butter, butter a 9 X 13 baking dish.
Cover the bottom of the dish with the sliced onions.
In a medium mixing bowl, mix the flour, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, black pepper, and salt.
With 1/2 of the flour mix, dredge the steak in the flour mix making sure it is covered on all sides.
In a very hot skillet add the cooking oil and brown the steak quickly in the oil. As soon as it is brown, remove the steak and place it on top of the onions in the baking dish.
Add the sliced potatoes on top of the steak.
Mix the remaining 1/2 cup of the flour mix with 2 cups buttermilk, making sure that it is mixed well.
Pour the buttermilk mixture over the potatoes.
Cover the dish and bake at 325 degrees for 1-1/2 hours
Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Enjoy!

Hubs loves baked steak and having everything in one pot is brilliant. Pinned it to stare the recipe!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious Helen, adding it to my try-it list. PINed and shared. :)
ReplyDeleteCan this be made on the stove top or in the crockpot?
ReplyDeleteHi Kitchen Monkey,
DeleteI see not reason why you couldn't make it in the crockpot, you would just have to add more liquid and adjust the cooking time of course. As far as cooking it on the stove top, it would not have the same flavor or texture that it has when baked. There is just something wonderful that happens when some things are baked or in the crockpot. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!
