My husband and I really enjoy grilling burgers and developing different recipes that are full of flavor. One of our favorite burger recipes that we have developed is our Cheesy Onion Burger. This burger is easy to put together we just add our garden onion, lettuce and tomato with some cheese, plus a great surprise in the center. This is a burger that our friends and family always come back for seconds.

Ingredients
6 Burgers
The Patties
3 pounds ground chuck
2 (2 ounce) envelopes Instant Onion Soup
2 teaspoons pepper
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
6 slices cheddar cheese
The Sauce
1/2 cup yellow mustard
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
The Buns
6 onion hamburger buns
1/2 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
The Fixings
Garden fresh leaf lettuce
Garden fresh tomatoes, sliced
Dill Pickles, sliced
Directions
In a small mixing bowl, mix the mustard, mayonnaise and sweet pickle relish, then set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, mix the ground chuck, onion soup mix, pepper, and 2 teaspoons garlic powder. Mix the ground chuck and seasons until completely blended together.
Divide the chuck into 12 equal patties.
Place onion slices on top of 6 of the patties.
Top the patties with the onion slices with the remainder of the patties.
Pat together until the burger is completely sealed all the way around.
Let the Patties set for 15 minutes.
While the patties are setting, melt the butter for the buns and add the garlic powder. Brush the buns on the inside top and bottom with the garlic butter.
Place the patties on a hot grill and grill until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees, when they reach that temperature place the cheese on top and cook until melted on top and the temperature reaches 165 degrees.
Remove the cooked patties from the grill and let set for 5 to 10 minutes.
Toast the buttered buns on the grill and remove them to a serving tray.
To build the burger, spread 1 tablespoon of the sauce on each side of the bun.
Place the lettuce on the bottom bun, top the lettuce with the pickles, then add the patty with the melted cheese, then layer the tomatoes on top. Finally top with the other half of the onion bun.
Enjoy!

Yum! That sauce sounds wonderful since I don't care for ketchup.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the onion inside the burger! I'll have to do that for my husband! Thanks for sharing at the What's for Dinner party!
ReplyDeleteI would take a hamburger over a steak ANY day and this one looks amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing with us at the Whimsical Wednesdays Link Party!
ReplyDeleteI so love this idea--Thank You. I am wondering, does the inside onion cook all the way through or partially or not so much? I am going to try is with my recipe for pickle red onion slices.
ReplyDeleteThe onion is cooked almost through, and cut fairly thin. It should be delicious with your pickled red onion slices, I will try that! Thanks o much for stopping by and the great idea!
