Old Glory Berry Cake
Old Glory Berry Cake is a very special cake recipe that we often times make on special holidays. We have enjoyed this cake on the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and special celebrations for military members in our family. This cake has even appeared at pot luck dinners and picnic's of course. It is a moist, delicious cake with a great blueberry and strawberry filling under the amazing frosting, it is a very special surprise!
How To Make Old Glory Berry Cake
The first thing we make will be our delicious filling that will make this cake so special!
After the berries are cooked then we will puree them in the food processor. This is a berry filling that I use over ice cream and just plain cake for a dessert sometimes, it is delicious!
Our foundation for this cake is a white cake from my favorite white cake mix, made according to directions on the box. Just watch what we do with it!
We refrigerate the filling for 2 hours and then we will be ready to work the magic!
With the end of a round wooden spoon, poke random holes in the cake. With the back of a spoon layer the strawberry and blueberry filling in alternate strips across the cake. Layering and then allow to soak in then layer again, using as much of the filling as you like. Then we refrigerate the cake for one hour before frosting.
This is a two ingredient very simple but delicious frosting that is so easy to put together.
Very carefully frost the cake, being careful to not pick up the filling and mix it in the frosting, although you can do that and swirl the filling in the frosting and that is real pretty.
I sliced the strawberries to create the strips and used the blueberries to create the stars.
