Old Fashioned Apple Skillet Cake
This recipe for Apple Skillet Cake has been around our family for as long as I can remember. It is a very simple recipe with fresh apples and some warm spices. The fresh apples are folded into a special cake batter and then baked in an old iron skillet. It is topped with more of the delicious apple's and sauce and of course we will serve our serving with a dollop of Blue Bell Ice Cream. Morning, noon or night this recipe is a winner every time!

Old Fashioned Apple Skillet Cake Recipe
Starting the recipe with some thinly sliced apples.
I am melting some butter in my Grandmothers old 10 inch black iron skillet, one of my kitchen treasures.
After the butter is melted, add the apples and some brown sugar, very carefully stirring.
Add the seasons and continue to stir and cook,
until the apples are tender. Remove the skillet
from the heat and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl add
two eggs room temperature.
Begin to whip together the egg and flour blend.
Begin to fold the apples into the batter.
Add the remainder of the melted butter and brown sugar. Stir together until completely blended. Continue to fold the apples into the batter.
Pour the remainder of the apples and sauce into a small sauce pan and set aside on warm heat.
Pour the batter into the black iron skillet.
Bake in the oven until it test clean.

Old Fashioned Apple Skillet Cake
Old Fashioned Apple Skillet Cake recipe from family. Fresh apples folded into a special cake batter then baked in an old iron skillet. Great dessert!
Ingredients
- 11/4 cups butter, divided
- 4 Honeycrisp apples, unpeeled and sliced thin
- 2 cups brown sugar, divided
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon all-spice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- dash salt
- Garnish with Ice Cream or Whipping Cream
Instructions
- Melt 1/4 cup butter in a 10 inch iron skillet.
- Stir in the sliced apples and toss until they are covered with the melted butter.
- Add the brown sugar and the cinnamon and all-spice to the apples, very carefully stirring, so as not to break the apple slices. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender. Then set aside, keep warm.
- Melt the remaining butter, whisk in the remaining sugar and mix until blended.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until creamy, whisk in the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Fold in 1 1/2 cups of the cooked apples into the egg and flour mixture. Reserve the remaining apples and sauce in a small sauce pan.
- Pour the batter into the iron skillet. Bake at 350 degree for 25 minutes or until the center test clean.
- Serve with the reserved apples and sauce, garnish with ice cream or whipped cream, then sprinkle with cinnamon.
We added the remainder of the apples and sauce to garnish the top of the cake, topped by a dollop or two of Blue Bell Ice Cream of course!
Serve the cake warm if possible with
the ice cream or whipped cream, just delicious!
