Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream

Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
Our Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream has been in my recipe box since the early 70's when one of my friends shared it with me. Through the years I have changed it here and there, but the base recipe remains the same. This pie is so easy to make with very few ingredients and yet it is so versatile. It is one of our go to pies here at the cottage and I sure hope you enjoy it!

How To Make Sour Cream Pie
With Cherries and Whipped Cream

Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream at Miz Helen's Country Cottage
We start the pie with a un-baked pie crust, I like to make my own crust, but a prepared crust is just fine to use.

Beat the eggs, sugar, vanilla, flour, butter and sour cream together and pour into the un-baked pie crust.

Bake the pie then remove it to a cooling rack,
 until it reaches room temperature.

Beat the whipping cream, sugar and vanilla until the peaks are stiff.

Fill a quart zip lock bag or decorator bag with whipped cream to pipe the edge of the pie. I like to set the bag into a class to fill it, it is so much easier for me. Then just zip it closed and snip the end off with your scissors and you have a decorator bag.

Cover the top of the pie with Whipped Cream and pipe the edges. The pie can be served with no garnish, but we love the cherries.

Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream

Sour Cream Pie With Cherries & Whipped Cream is so easy to make with very few ingredients and yet it is so versatile. It is one of our favorites!

Ingredients

The Pie
  • 1 un-baked 9-inch pie shell
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter, soften
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 (8 ounce) container of sour cream
Cherry Garnish
  • 2 cups cherry pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
Whipped Cream
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream, very cold
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

The Pie
  1. In an electric mixing bowl, cream the eggs and sugar together until creamy. Then add the flour butter, and vanilla. Scrape the sides of the bowl and add the sour cream, slowly mix until completely incorporated.
  2. Pour into a 9 inch un-baked pie shell and bake at 350 degrees, 40 to 50 minutes. I use a baking ring to help keep the crust from getting to brown.
  3. Remove to a cooling rack and let the pie come to room temperature, before applying a whipped cream topping or serving.
  4. If desired, cover the top of the pie with whipped cream and then garnish with the cherries.
Whipped Cream
  1. Pour the cold whipping cream into a chilled electric mixer bowl and begin to beat the cream.
  2. Add the sugar and the vanilla, continue to mix until there are stiff peaks. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
Cherry Garnish
  1. In a small mixing bowl, add the cherry pie filling, stir in the cinnamon and the sugar. Mix with a spoon until blended. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
