March Food and Recipe Basket 2024:
I am so excited to share the March Food and Recipe Basket with all of you today. Weather is such a big factor in March as to weather we will have a early spring planting season or late. So far this year it looks like we will be able to plant early because we are having some real consistent warm days with some rain which is what we look for when planting. We grow our own vegetables here at the cottage, which allows us to have either fresh, home canned or frozen vegetables available the year round. What we don't have available here, we usually find at one of our local farmers market. I have always been a seasonal cook and enjoy the transitions of the seasons so I hope you will enjoy these ideas and inspirations as we transition into another season.
Our Food and Recipe Basket For March
Will Be Filled With
Cabbage
From Garden To Table
One of our favorite recipes is our Old Fashioned Creamed Cabbage, it is a very simple dish but has amazing flavor that comes through with a creamy sauce. There is no doubt that this is a delicious comforting vegetable dish.
The star of this recipe is the cabbage, what an amazing combination. This is a recipe that
we make the year round.
This unstuffed cabbage will give you the same full flavors of the old fashioned stuffed cabbage in a simple casserole. We use the same flavors and the basic ingredients to present this delicious casserole. This is a winter garden to table recipe for us. We take a walk out to our winter garden and cut the fresh cabbage that we use in this recipe.
The traditional recipe has Irish potatoes, sausage and bacon that is made into a stew. My Grandparents grew cabbage on their farm so my Grandma added cabbage to her Dublin Coddle, giving it a wonderful flavor. This is a great dish that
brings back so many memories for me.
Cabbage and Sausage Stew This pot of stew smells heavenly as it simmers away just waiting to greet the family at the end of the day.
Tangy Lemon Cole Slaw has become a favorite here at the cottage. Its takes no time to make this slaw and it is ready for the table. The dressing for this slaw is full of great seasons and tangy lemon, just shake it in a jar and it is ready to drizzle over the slaw. There are
no dairy products in the slaw so it will
go to a summer picnic without a problem.
Curly Leaf Kale
From Garden To Table
I love walking out to my winter or summer garden and gathering some fresh kale for a nice salad. In this recipe I added some apples, pears and red onions, then topped it with a delicious lemon vinaigrette and last we sprinkled it with toasted almonds. I really enjoy a flavorful salad with all these very fresh ingredients. This is a great garden to table recipe!
Berries
that are currently blooming.
From Garden To Table
Blackberries
I always look forward to the berries so we can have a fresh Blackberry Cobbler. I even freeze the berries from year to year so that I can make this family favorite any time of the year.
We do love our blackberries and always look forward to the harvest and the opportunity to develop some special treat with the berries. This year our special blackberry treat is this awesome Blackberry Swirl Frozen Pie. It has a delicious lemon base with our special blackberry jam swirled into the pie
to make this an exceptional pie.
Spicy Blackberry JamOne of our favorite recipes for the berries is our Spicy Blackberry Jam, my Grandmother used this recipe every year for her berries.
Irish Blackberry Crumble Cake
This cake recipe always reminds me of my Grandmother and our Irish Heritage.
