Summer Garden Tour: 2024

Summer Garden Tour: 2024 at Miz Helen's Country Cottage

Welcome to our annual summer garden tour. As I look back on our spring and summer garden season it has been a good one. We have had quiet a bit of construction and remodel on our grounds, but we managed to produce a really nice harvest with some beautiful plants to enjoy. In gardening the weather is always a challenge, and this year has been no different. We are actually in the last half of our August heat and it is hot, but it will soon start to cool with the dog days of summer. We will soon be preparing the ground and planting our winter garden and the seasons continue on.

One of the beautiful Iris that greeted us in the spring.
My friend Barb, gave us the Iris as
a memorial to our precious Max.

The kale produced all through the spring and summer.

This garden square has been a great producer this season.

We love our vintage rose bushes, they are the first to bloom and never stop blooming until the first frost in the fall.

Our beautiful bougainvillea sits just outside our screen porch
so we enjoy it inside and out!

My husband's project in the late spring began with resetting the entire flagstone patio. The patio measures 20 X 18 and is a great size for gatherings. We originally set the flagstone patio about 15 years ago. In that time frame it had begun to sink and have some real uneven stones that caused some safety concerns.

My husband amazes me, he pulled up all the flagstone and re-laid it. Just look at him moving that very heavy metal
 cooking chest back into place.
He will be 86 years old
on his upcoming birthday in September!
What A Guy!!

After he completed laying all the flagstone he filled the gaps with concrete. The concrete has given the flagstone
a smoother surface to walk on and  looks real pretty.

Our little Cody is doing his part to help clean up!

We tired some different tomato brands this year. These are our San Marzano, they are beautiful and very tasty.
They are still producing at this time.

The other new seed that we are trying this year is a summer squash that grows up instead of the vine running on the ground.
The concept has been very interesting.

The vines have  been covered in blooms and produced great summer squash. We will be growing these again next year.

I love creating beautiful vignette's of flowers all over the property.

The tall cane in the back of this vignette is ginger. All I have to do is dig it up and there is a beautiful blub of
fresh ginger headed for the kitchen.

Beautiful pots of coleus line the walk way.

I love the placement of beautiful pots and plants to
 enhance the up-stairs garden area.

I love the plants in this old pot that I have had for years.
The older the pot the more beautiful the patina on the pot.

I love my little kitchen herb garden just outside my kitchen door.

I really appreciate you stopping by our summer garden tour today. We really enjoy our garden and the bounty it gives us as we move it from our garden to our table. Happy gardening until we see you again soon!
Peace and Joy
